Summary for Prose

0 Nothing Personal

Prose, Short form

My younger brother turned 21 in 1997, and with myself at 23, I started to realise that perhaps I'd started to slip beyond that “young and all-knowing” phase. I was now beginning to realise there was a lot I didn’t know and the things I did at 18 took that little bit more effort to recover from.

0 Rain

Prose, Short form

I originally wrote this piece in 1995, as part of an exercise in a screenwriting class where we were asked to focus on sound. My teacher at the time needed some convincing that this was meeting the requirements she’d set. Anyone who’s spent time in the open of a rural area, where the sounds of people do not exist, knows that it can very noisy.

0 Bridge

Prose, Short form

As my life as a student was drawing to a close, my maternal grandfather—the last of my grandparents, died. My maternal grandmother died before my parents had married, and both paternal grandparents died before I was old enough to truly comprehend or appreciate mortality. Whilst it’s not a factual story, it is to a large extent, an amalgam of my history, and the emotions that powered my mother’s family.
