Cue the Sun

Wordsworth

0Precis

I have stood on the shore,
and watched for you,
hoping to sight you on the horizon
I've waited for you,
searching oceans of faces,
urging the tide to bring you back to me

Cortez

In my heart I know you are gone,
but I still think about you sometimes,
in the space between shadow and light,
in the twilight which creeps coldly between sleep and waking

I don't know where you are,
or what thoughts course through your mind
Perhaps you've had the same doubts as me,
that, despite your hope of me being the one for you,
you found it easier to retreat and dismiss me,
lest your hopes be dashed again

Perhaps still you've paid little thought to me since we parted,
and you know nothing of the feelings you stirred in me
I wonder sometimes, if should our paths cross again,
will we recognise and greet each other as old friends,
or will we pass each other by as total strangers

I can't feel you near me, anymore,
and the memory of your face is fading,
my efforts to revive you in my mind
conversely swell the cancerous sorrow,
which threatens to devour me.

I am grateful, to you,
as in the short time we spent together,
you got closer to me, than any have before
you opened my eyes to a lifetime,
and showed me a life I can endure,
if only for the hope of meeting your kind again

But now, I must let you go,
or the things you taught me will be for nothing
and just as I cannot turn my back to you,
I can no longer face an empty ocean

My heart is strong only when loved,
and without the promise of your return,
it is weak, and weighs as an anchor against a rising tide
so unless I cast your memory to sea,
I will drown here, in this deepening fog.

Harder than opening my heart and mind to you,
I cannot speak the words,
my mind can think them,
my heart may one day feel them,
but for this lifetime at least,
I will miss you,

Goodbye
